Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Revelation 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
The first thing Jesus said when His disciples asked about the signs of His second coming was to be careful about false prophets.
Jesus looking down through the ages was so sad about how false prophets will take over the world and deceive many. They will profess and use the name of Christ to do many harm. They are wolves in sheep clothing and a great threat to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus was so concerned about this that He sighted as the first thing when His disciples asked about the signs of His coming: “Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
Apostle Paul also was very worried about how false prophets will come in and deceive the weak in the faith and even affecting the whole sheep. He gave warning to the Christians in Ephesus to be on guard and watch for the enemy through false teachers/prophets : “Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 20:31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.”
There are several warnings in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation about false prophets. Isaiah gave the golden test you can use to detect false prophets: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20
Let’s look at these 7 facts about false prophets that’ll help you be on guard and know them by their fruits:
1)False Prophets are engaged in miracles: It’s So sad how many are deceived by miracles. Satan Had a meeting with His angels and saw that one of the things that’ll sweep many into their net is miracle. Today’s Christians are so engaged in signs and wonders that they have departed from the LORD Jesus Christ. Jesus gave the warning that the deception will be so great that Satan will even attempt to also deceive the very elect. Satan can also do miracles and this is why many will perish. Many look for signs and wonders instead of trusting in God’s word. Satan also provide for their need by bringing up false prophets. Miracles are Satan’s greatest tool in these last days to draw many away from the truth. Yes Jesus did miracles while on earth but that wasn’t His main mission on earth. All His miracles He did was intended to glorify God and show how He loves us and desire to give us salvation and freedom from sin. Jesus delivered many from Bondage of sin as he attributed their sickness to sin. He healed the sick, raised the dead and pointed all of them to the truth. He entreated them to believe in Him and obey Him So that they can be saved. Jesus also made it plain before those He performed miracle that the miracle cannot save them but their faith in Him will save them. “John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
But false prophets don’t lead souls to Jesus Christ. They lead souls to Satan their father. They make it appear that they have the keys to life so people should come to them. Satan working through them leads many souls to perdition. Miracles cannot save. ONLY Jesus can save. It’s ONLY Jesus who hath the keys of death and hell and He’s the ONLY way to life. “Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
Don’t fall for these false prophets. They’re not from God but from Satan. They fulfill The signs of Jesus coming “For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Matthew 24:5”
People are looking for miracles while great ones are just around them. It’s a great miracle for a sinner to be turned into a new creature. To be born again. It’s a great miracle to be alive. To have breathe in your nostrils!
But while it is true that the results of trickery have often been palmed off as genuine manifestations, there have been, also, marked exhibitions of supernatural power. The mysterious rapping with which modern spiritualism began was not the result of human trickery or cunning, but was the direct work of evil angels, who thus introduced one of the most successful of soul-destroying delusions. Many will be ensnared through the belief that spiritualism is a merely human imposture; when brought face to face with manifestations which they cannot but regard as supernatural, they will be deceived, and will be led to accept them as the great power of God.
These persons overlook the testimony of the Scriptures concerning the wonders wrought by Satan and his agents. It was by satanic aid that Pharaoh’s magicians were enabled to counterfeit the work of God. Paul testifies that before the second advent of Christ there will be similar manifestations of satanic power. The coming of the Lord is to be preceded by “the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9, 10. And the apostle John, describing the miracle-working power that will be manifested in the last days, declares: “He doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, and deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do.” Revelation 13:13, 14.No mere impostures are here foretold. Men are deceived by the miracles which Satan’s agents have power to do, not which they pretend to do.
2)Prosperity Gospel Preachers: False prophets never lead souls to the truth. The way to eternal life is very slippery and narrow yet false prophets will entice people to believe that you must be rich because none of God’s people have to be poor. “You must be wealthy if you profess to follow Jesus” they say. These false teachings are not from the Bible. God teaches His people to deny themselves and follow Him. Though God prospered some people in the Bible, in material things, He has His plans for their lives and know how they’ll use these possessions to glorify Him. I’m not saying God desires all His people to be poor or face trials. God has plans and it’s not the plans of men. God’s thoughts are never the same as the thoughts of men. The Bible never teaches that come and follow Jesus and be wealthy. It speaks on the contrary how one have to deny himself, leave all things behind and take his cross and follow Jesus!
False prophets have adapted the same philosophy the world is following because they are of the world and from the devil. The world teaches you have to strive and never give up to be rich. The Bible also teaches “Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Proverbs 23:4” “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 John 2:15-17”
Jesus said it again that “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:24-26”
Don’t be deceived by the false prophets. They tell you to seek after the world riches, to give all your money to them so that you’ll prosper in turn and get a house built for you in heaven. What a deception!!!
But listen to God’s word which says God will always provide for your needs and will never let you down because He loves you. God will always be with you and strengthen you in all your trials and He wants you to be separated from the world and its ambitions. He wants you to follow the narrow way that leads to life. Allow Him to lead the way because He loves you.
Don’t fall for the false prophets but “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
3)Leading people through the broad way: Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
False prophets always lead people to love the world and not Jesus. They teach that a Christian don’t have to face calamity but only easy way. Jesus also teaches we will face great tribulation in this world because we love Him “John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” “Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”
As a Christian when you face trials don’t deem it to be of some strange thing but thank your LORD and ask Him for strength to stand. God always wishes us the best and sometimes allow trials to come but He be with us through it all.
Don’t be deceived by the false prophets. “In harmony with this injunction, believers in Christ are urged to give candid consideration to the evidences of divine guidance in the advent movement of the present day, and the manifestation of the gift of prophecy connected with this movement. To disregard the work of the Holy Spirit, as manifested through this gift, is perilous. Yet we are admonished to “beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” And the test is given, “ye shall know them by their fruits.”
As well might men expect to gather “grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles,” as to find unadulterated truth and sanctifying power emanating from a base deceiver. “Every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit…. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7:15-20.
4)False Prophets never speak about sin, never rebuke sin: Sin separates us from God and will prevent us from entering Heaven. We must overcome sin before we can enter Heaven. Jesus has paved the way and given us the power to tread the narrow path. These false prophets always speak about world prosperity but never speak about victory over sin. It was sin that put our Savior on the cross. Satan is not alarmed when one is living in sin but become enraged when the truth is brought before the sinner. They are sent by the Devil to destroy God’s Sheep. We should be on guard so that we don’t get deceived by the devil.
The government of God is not, as Satan would make it appear, founded upon a blind submission, an unreasoning control. It appeals to the intellect and the conscience. “Come now, and let us reason together” is the Creator’s invitation to the beings He has made. Isaiah 1:18. God does not force the will of His creatures. He cannot accept an homage that is not willingly and intelligently given. A mere forced submission would prevent all real development of mind or character; it would make man a mere automaton. Such is not the purpose of the Creator. He desires that man, the crowning work of His creative power, shall reach the highest possible development. He sets before us the height of blessing to which He desires to bring us through His grace. He invites us to give ourselves to Him, that He may work His will in us. It remains for us to choose whether we will be set free from the bondage of sin, to share the glorious liberty of the sons of God.
Strive to enter in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat; because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, that leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” These roads are distinct, separate, in opposite directions. One leads to eternal life, the other to eternal death. I saw the distinction between these roads, also the distinction between the companies traveling them. The roads are opposite; one is broad and smooth, the other narrow and rugged. So the parties that travel them are opposite in character, in life, in dress, and in conversation.
Those who travel in the narrow way are talking of the joy and happiness they will have at the end of the journey. Their countenances are often sad, yet often beam with holy, sacred joy. They do not dress like the company in the broad road, nor talk like them, nor act like them. A pattern has been given them. A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief opened that road for them, and traveled it Himself. His followers see His footsteps, and are comforted and cheered. He went through safely; so can they, if they follow in His footsteps.
In the broad road all are occupied with their persons, their dress, and the pleasures in the way. They indulge freely in hilarity and glee, and think not of their journey’s end, of the certain destruction at the end of the path. Every day they approach nearer their destruction; yet they madly rush on faster and faster. Oh, how dreadful this looked to me!
5)False Prophets never teach about the narrow way that leads to life: Jesus taught His disciples to enter into the narrow way which leads to life but false prophets teach people to enter the easy broad way. Many are deceived to follow the broad way that leads to death. Compare Jesus words with false teachers today who say you don’t have to suffer when you follow Jesus. “Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” “John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
However there’s a great prize and salvation after suffering for Christ sake: “Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;” “Revelation 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.” “Revelation 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 7:15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 7:16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
6)False prophets never speak about salvation in Jesus Christ: False prophets direct all attention to themselves but not Jesus Christ. They rarely mention the name “Jesus Christ”. Prosperity gospel preachers are deemed as business strategists. They are motivational speakers that tickle the ears of people who have itchy ears. Instead of teaching about how to overcome sin and obey Jesus, they teach about how to be rich and become a great man on earth! How sad. God is very displeased with all these false teachers and we shouldn’t fall for their lies. Any teacher who teaches anything apart from salvation in our LORD Jesus Christ, that teacher is from the Devil, simple as that.
7)False prophets are from Satan and they have turned into an angel of light: “The Saviour foretold that in the latter days false prophets would appear, and draw away disciples after them; and also that those who in this time of peril should stand faithful to the truth that is specified in the book of Revelation, would have to meet doctrinal errors so specious that, if it were possible, the very elect would be deceived.
“God would have every true sentiment prevail. Satan can skillfully play the game of life with many souls, and he acts in a most underhanded, deceptive manner to spoil the faith of the people of God and to discourage them. … He works today as he worked in heaven—to divide the people of God in the very last stage of this earth’s history. He seeks to create dissension, and to arouse contention and discussion, and to remove if possible the old landmarks of truth committed to God’s people. He tries to make it appear as if the Lord contradicts Himself.
“It is when Satan appears as an angel of light, that he takes souls in his snare, deceiving them. Men who pretend to have been taught of God, will adopt fallacious theories, and in their teaching will so adorn these fallacies as to bring in Satanic delusions. Thus Satan will be introduced as an angel of light, and will have opportunity to present his pleasing fables.
“These false prophets will have to be met. They will make an effort to deceive many, by leading them to accept false theories. Many scriptures will be misapplied in such a way that deceptive theories will apparently be based upon the words that God has spoken. Precious truth will be appropriated to substantiate and establish error. These false prophets, who claim to be taught of God, will take beautiful scriptures that have been given to adorn the truth, and will use them as a robe of righteousness to cover false and dangerous theories. And even some of those who in times past the Lord has honored, will depart so far from the truth as to advocate misleading theories regarding many phases of truth, including the sanctuary question.”
The greatness and power with which the Creator endowed Lucifer he has perverted; and yet, when it suits his purpose, he can impart to men sentiments that are enchanting. Everything in nature comes from God; yet Satan can inspire his agents with thoughts that appear elevating and noble. Did he not come to Christ with quotations of Scripture when he designed to overthrow him with his specious temptations? This is the way in which he comes to man, as an angel of light disguising his temptations under an appearance of goodness, and making men believe him to be the friend rather than the enemy of humanity. It is in this way that he has deceived and seduced the race,—beguiling them with subtle temptations, bewildering them with specious deceptions.
Satan has ascribed to God all the evils to which flesh is heir. He has represented him as a God who delights in the sufferings of his creatures, who is revengeful and implacable. It was Satan who originated the doctrine of eternal torment as a punishment for sin, because in this way he could lead men into infidelity and rebellion, distract souls, and dethrone the human reason.
Heaven, looking down, and seeing the delusions into which men were led, knew that a divine Instructor must come to earth. Men in ignorance and moral darkness must have light, spiritual light; for the world knew not God, and he must be revealed to their understanding. Truth looked down from heaven and saw not the reflection of her image; for dense clouds of moral darkness and gloom enveloped the world, and the Lord Jesus alone was able to roll back the clouds; for he was the light of the world. By his presence he could dissipate the gloomy shadow that Satan had cast between man and God. Darkness covered the earth, and gross darkness the people. Through the accumulated misrepresentations of the enemy, many were so deceived that they worshiped a false god, clothed with the attributes of the satanic character.
