In Matthew 6:22-23, the Lord speaks of something very important – the eyes. He says, “The eyes are the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
Many times we look at things in any context, we fail to remember that these eyes are the windows through which any thing evil and good comes into the body , mind and heart of a human being. When we look at the surroundings, the eyes take in the beauty of a place, the mind perceives it and the heart feels it – such goes also with the picture of a baby, flowers, or just anything beautiful that is in the vicinity. That is why the T.V Commercials will be very appealing that one buys an item they didn’t even have need for!
If this is how well we can remember the good things that we see, how much more will we remember the bad and filthy images- the pornography, the nude photos, the videos, the posters. The images we have fed our minds with slowly start changing our line of htought and gradually we start thinking how it would be to enact some things. We become curious and fall into sin.
What if we would try and tame our eyes in what they see so that we would keep our purity intact? Jesus said that If one part of your body causes you to sin, gorge it out – if the eyes cause you to sin, gorge them out;it is better for you to enter the Kingdom of God without an eye than for your whole body to be thrown into the eternal fire. (paraphrased) If taken literally, we would all be blind by now. But Jesus was implying the importance of taming the members of our bodies so as to bring praise to God- so as to preserve the temple of the Holy Spirit and that way, have light in our lives.
Though not easy to forgo the pleasures of the world that are good to look at yet wounding to our souls, we should do our best to tame our eyes…
Yes. Be Careful Little Eyes What You See….
