Canada May Ban Anti-LGBT Speech With 2 Years in Prison

In this present age of political correctness, one needs to be ever so careful of what he or she says publicly, or even privately in some instances, so as not to be accused of discrimination or using hate rhetoric. This is especially true when it relates to individuals discussing issues surrounding the lifestyle of individuals in the LGBTIQ lifestyle. Individuals so zealous to defend the “rights” of this group, commonly trample the rights of those who oppose their lifestyle, and use legal processes to silence their voices.

“Canada’s Liberal Party government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has introduced a bill that would ban transgender discrimination, including both gender identity and gender expression, with up to two years in prison for violators. The bill seeks to amend the Canadian Criminal Code to expand existing ‘hate speech’ prohibitions to include any public speech or communication that ‘promotes hatred’ on the basis of ‘gender identity’ or ‘gender expression,’ and also the Canadian Human Rights Act, to cover transgender people. As a society, we have taken many important steps toward recognizing and protecting the legal rights for the LGBTQ2 community – from enshrining equality rights in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to the passage of the Civil Marriage Act,” Trudeau said in a speech, announcing the bill on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on May 17. ‘There remains much to be done, though. Far too many people still face harassment, discrimination, and violence for being who they are. This is unacceptable.’ He added: ‘To do its part, the Government of Canada today will introduce legislation that will help ensure transgender and other gender-diverse people can live according to their gender identity, free from discrimination, and protected from hate propaganda and hate crimes.’”1

From another report, “On April 28, the Canadian Senate passed bill C-250 by a vote of 59 to 11. In passing this legislation, the Canadian Parliament added ‘sexual orientation’ to the nation’s laws criminalizing ‘hate speech.’ The end result is that the Bible may now be considered a form of criminalized hate literature and Christians who teach that homosexuality is sinful may face criminal charges. Even before the passage of C-250, Canadian legislators had been moving to restrict free speech and religious liberty. The concept of ‘hate speech’ implies that certain forms of speech are to be criminalized for being out of step with the government’s ideological positions. Canada’s extensive hate speech laws already criminalized any statements considered to be disparaging to ethnic and minority groups. By adding sexual orientation to the list of protected classes, the Canadian Parliament has not only shut down free speech; it has opened a legal can of worms that will be most difficult to handle…The most important part of the newly-revised criminal code reads: ‘Every one who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, willfully promotes hatred against any identifiable group is guilty of . . . an indictable offense and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.’ During a recent debate, the Canadian attorney general refused to comment on whether or not the Bible is, in itself, hate speech. That matter, we are now warned, will be left for the courts to be determined. We are fooling ourselves if we believe this threat to religious liberty will not cross our border. This same logic is already accepted by many law professors and judges in the United States. The passage of C-250 is a warning to us all. When free speech is denied and the preachers are told what they can and cannot say, religious liberty is effectively dead.”2

This law carries with it serious ramifications for Christians who believe and teach the Bible’s position regarding homosexuality, that it is an abomination. According to this law, the Bible is “hate propaganda” and those who use it to express their views are considered spreaders of hate propaganda which could land them in jail. History always repeats and since the restriction of freedom of speech and freedom of the press, as it relates to the lifestyle of the LGBT movement is a reality, one cannot doubt that freedom of speech in other areas will also be denied; such areas as exposing the corruptions of church leaders and institutions, as well as state leaders and their illicit relationship with leading churches. This will be considered hate speech and written materials that are deemed condemnatory to churches or government will be declared hate literature, just as what happened 1980’s in Canada when The Great Controversy was declared such after the mass-distribution of the book in some wealthy sections of Montreal, which went against a law punishable with heavy fines.3

For those thinking that such legislation could never come to the United States, consider that “In the United States, the New York City Commission on Human Rights released a legal enforcement guidance in December 2015 saying business owners who fail to call transgender people by their preferred name or pronoun or bar them from using opposite-sex bathrooms may be fined as much as $250,000. The ‘guidance’ also outlined various actions that should be considered violations of the New York City Human Rights Law and listed the consequences for businesses that violate the law. If businesses refuse to call transgender employees or customers by preferred newly created pronouns such as ‘ze/hir,’ or if they refuse to call a biological male ‘her’ or ‘she,’ they will be liable for paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.”4 Additionally, we cannot forget President Obama’s directive to public schools to allow individuals to use the bathroom of the sex they identify with, regardless of their biological sex, as well as his threat to withhold federal education funding from the entire state of North Carolina unless state officials reverse the statewide law that prohibits individuals from using the public restroom of their choice. With the encroachment of the government and the subsequent infringement of religious liberty in this particular area, it is not a stretch to conclude that the government will impose the Mark of the Beast, that will restrict both civil and religious liberty, which has been prophesied (see Revelation 13:11-18) Are Christians prepared for the crisis just ahead that will test every man’s soul?
