Trouble is brewing in local Adventist churches in Kenya over planned changes that seems to not have been well consulted at the membership level.
At least 28 churchs in Nduru district, which is under South Kenya Conference, have refused to be moved to the newly created South Gusii Conference headquartered at Kenyanya.
The Churches, mainly in South Mugirango constituency, have cowed to remain South Kenya conference whose headquarters are in Kisii.
On Sabbath, members of Esaka SDA Church ejected Pastor Rex Ondari who is in charge of Nduru district, after he announced plans to move them to a new district, Omobera.
This disrupted the Sabbath service as members forced Ondari to cut short his speech as he was booed and jeered.
The faithful said they would not be forced to join the new district.
Several kilometers away in the Capital, the storm over the ‘illegal’ creation of the new Nairobi Metropolitan Conference, against laid down procedures of the church is yet to be resolved.
The splinter group seems to have a huge support among faithfuls in Nairobi and Kajiado and the SDA Church is yet to come up with a concrete solution to the simmering rift that is pulling the church apart.
