After calling for world peace Pope Francis and Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayeb ruffled religious feathers when they locked lips at an inter-religious meeting in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on Monday.
The religious leaders had just signed a document about fighting extremism and decided a smooch was the perfect way to celebrate.
People were taken aback at the sight of two male religious leaders kissing in a country where public displays of affection are forbidden, not to mention same sex relationships, which are punished with jail, beatings, torture and even deportation for non-citizens.
The Pope has been moving around uniting the religious organizations of the world. He has met Lutherans, Evangelicals, Orthodoxs, Waldenians he has agreed with Atheists, and in all his call has been the same, that we are all brothers and sisters reaching out to the 'same' God.
The signign in Abu Dhabi is a culmination of a lot of trips including in Egypt where the Pope called Muslims brothers and sisters.
This meeting is significant because now the Pope has finally met with the highest echelons of Islam and agreed with them.
In Spiritual context, the earthly pagan religions are now in union against God. That it does not matter which god you worship or how you worship that god, we all end up worshiping the same god.
That's not true though...
Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
