Machakos Masaku 7s similarities with Sodom and Gomorrah

4 min

The recent Machakos Masaku 7s rugby tournament is a true reflection of how saddened God was in the time of Noah that he simply found no reason at all to save that city.

Ge:6:5: And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually

Every single thought of man was continuously evil. yet even in such a saddening, Noah found favor in the eyes of God he was a righteous man who walked with God. Thus for years Noah preached to these people and no one for a moment thought that the world as they knew it then would come to an end.

 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Luke 17:26-27

Jesus, several thousand years reminded the people of the sad tale that happened before the flood. The reason that these people were destroyed was not because God was tired or he had given up, but because “ever imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil”. Nothing good was coming out of mankind.

Again we are reminded of Sodom and Gomorrah. This was another sad tale of a people who had given up their consciousness to the evil desires of their hearts. They had given up all sense and morals and from lawyers to the clergy, young and old, doctors and patients, teachers and their students, they were all lost to their sins and their sexual immorality.

Abraham for a long time negotiates with God on behalf of the people but unfortunately not even  10 righteous people were found in that city. He started from 50 going down and 10 people who walked in the fear of the Lord were not found. Only Lot and his family were saved in a whole city.

And when the angels of the Lord visited the City “the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter ” Genesis 19:4 and their one demand was “Where are the men which came in to thee this night?  bring them out unto us, that we may know them.” Genesis 19:5

That is how bad the situation was. Both fathers and sons, teachers, lawyers, clergy, the bible says the men of the city came to Lot asking to have sexual knowledge of the guests he was hosting. Even Lot’s sacrifice of giving them his daughters ” which have not known man” Genesis 19:8 fell on deaf ears.

 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.Lu:17:28-30

The recent Masaku 7s simply reflected how damaged our society has become. Young and old, teachers and students, fathers and sons, i dare say even clergy they all like in Lot’s time went round that playground and said-where is the fun that we may have it. They then ‘gave themselves up’ to the desires of their hearts. From alcohol to sex and partying. No one cared. No one thought to care.

The stories doing rounds the internet or more horrifying and shocking. Young ladies stripped naked on vehicle rooftops dancing themselves silly. Young men indulged their sexual appetites on the sights and the bodies. Their dressing was of one big prostitute assembly. Their music just like the Israelites from Egypt indulged their hearts did not in anyway edify their being.

We are living in a wicked time. A time when people have refused to work out their marriage problems; but instead, quit and move on. Psychologists and backslid religious clergy in churches are encouraging divorce. They say, you know well, if it doesn’t work out, hang-up and move on! Divorce is a horrible sin that perpetuates for a lifetime. For I hate divorce,” says the Lord Malachi 2:16

Sexual immortality is epidemic across the world, sex tourism is everywhere, marriage is no longer sacred in the mind of many people, young and old alike, having sex with multiple partners in their life time, no one is sorry for that.

Even those in marriage no longer hold sacred their marriages. Tune in to Maina Kageni’s morning show and you would weep for the sanctity of marriage in Kenya and the world. Mipango ya Kando has become an accepted part of marriages today. Some couples even have conceived the idea of ‘swinging’ couples, where they meet at an agreed location and exchange their lawfully wedded couples for sex.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2Tm:3:1-5

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:7

Unfortunately we should not expect the situation to get better. Christ foretold that in the end, this would happen. 4

M’t:24:6: And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
M’t:24:8: All these are the beginning of sorrows.
M’t:24:11: And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
M’t:24:12: And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
M’t:24:21: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
M’t:24:22: And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
M’t:24:36: But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
M’t:24:37: But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
M’t:24:38: For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
M’t:24:39: And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
M’t:24:46: Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
M’t:24:47: Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
