Many Christians are heading the call of the Pope claiming that regardless of the faith you profess, as long as you are a Christian, you are a child of God. The Pope even went further to claim that Muslims are our brothers and sisters and that even atheists have a shot of heaven just as ‘they are’.
Pope Francis: ‘Christians And Muslims Are Brothers And Sisters’
Pope Francis to atheists: You don’t have to believe in God to go to heaven
Let us address this issue.
First of all, are we all children of God? Of course not. People seem to think we are living in a totally different world from the one that Abaraham and Moses walked on. The truth is, the very pagan religions that God was asking the Israelites to not associate with are still there today. We only have added a few more religions like Islam to the list.
Idolatry is the worship of an idol or a physical object as a representation of a god. In this sense, the Catholics are practicing idolatry by having physical objects as a representation of Christ. Of course as you would expect, they deleted the commandment forbidding idolatry from their catechism. And in the same category, we can throw in the Buddhists and the Hindus who worship cows.
‘You shall not make for yourselves idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves an image or a sacred pillar, nor shall you place a figured stone in your land to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 26:1
And now we can throw in every little piece of pagan religion including Islam. Muslims have set a side what they call the holy city of Mecca and among their 5 pillars of faith, a Muslim with means is required to at least once in his/her lifetime to visit the place and stone the devil. Paganism 101.
But what about Christianity? What is it that identifies Christians?
Christians are today taught that s long as you verbally accept Christ, you are a son or daughter of God and you are no longer under the law. This doctrine gives these Christians that confidence to trample on the laws of God and expect to still be the Children of God.
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold” (Mat 24:12). Breaking the law (lawlessness) is linked to lack of love, which Jesus said would grow cold. Jesus magnified the law by explaining its direct link to love; in particular (as quoted above after each respective commandment) He expanded the peoples’ understanding of the first, fourth, sixth, and seventh commandments! This was even prophesied! “He will exalt the law and make it honorable” (Is 42:21).
Do true Christian’s keep God’s commandments? “And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Rev 12:17).
Jesus said, “If you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words? (John 5:46-47). Not every one that says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Mat 7:21). “The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire” (Mat 13:41). “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin” (John 8:34).
Jesus condemned the Pharisees because they did not keep the commandments, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?…And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men” (Mat 15:3,9). “He answered and said to them, ‘Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me, And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men…All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition'” (Mk 7:6-9) (you can click here to see how the Pharisees tried to violate all ten of the commandments).
Notice that eternal life is tied in to keeping the commandments according to Jesus: “But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments” (Mat 19:17).”Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, ‘Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?’ So Jesus said to him…”You know the commandments” (Mk 10:17,19) and then He listed half of the ten commandments (also in Luke 18:19-20). We see Christ calling us to keep the commandments of God, why?
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Being a Child of God is closely tied to receiving Christ. This we know because Jesus said ” I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6″
Jesus says that if we love him and his God, the Father, we will keep his commandments:
“Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. . . Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me” (Jn.14:21, 23-24).
Consider also how Jesus says that we can remain in his love: “If you obey my commands, you will remain [remain and live in] in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love” (Jn.15:10 NIV). This shows that we are commanded by Jesus Christ to follow his example. This was understood and taught by the apostle Peter: “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps” (1.Pet.2:21 NIV).
“For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean'” (Mk.7:21-23 NIV).
Sin begins in the mind as Jesus says, which is why we have to change our way of thinking and the way we live our lives. This change must come from within us—within our minds and hearts. Repentance must come from the heart. One must also accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins. Only then can we love and obey God from our hearts.
God’s solution to removing sin is not the removal or destruction of the commandments that show us what sin is, but a change of heart from within! Once a person has repented, been baptized, and received the Father’s holy spirit, God’s purpose is to truly establish his law within the minds and hearts of men and women. Through the holy spirit, Christ in us motivates and leads us, which enables us to truly keep the commandments.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'” (Matt.7:21-23 NIV).
If you are not doing the will of the Father, you are not a friend of Jesus Christ and God the Father. If you are not a friend of Jesus and God the Father, you are an enemy and will be destroyed instead of being saved:
“But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them [through his holy spirit and the keeping of his commandments]—bring them here and kill them in front of me” (Lk.19:27 NIV).
The apostle John wrote a stinging rebuke to those who say that they know Jesus Christ and claim to follow him, but do not keep the commandments: “The man who says, I know him [Jesus Christ] but does not do what he commands [does not keep the commandments] is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1.Jn.2:4 NIV). The Book of Revelation shows that liars will not be in the Kingdom of God, but they will be burned up in the Lake of Fire! (Rev.21:8, 27; 22:15).
“But if anyone obeys [Greek: is keeping] his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how [that is, by this] we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did” (1.Jn.2:5-6 NIV).
If we say that we are Christians, we should follow Christ’s example of how to live our lives. If we refuse to do this, we are liars and hypocrites.
Will you believe the teachings of men or the teachings of God’s Word through Jesus Christ? There is no salvation unless you believe God! The Bible clearly teaches that if we truly love God, we will keep his commandments:
“This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out [practicing and living by] his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome” (1.Jn.5:2-3 NIV).
We are not ALL children of God unless we keep the commandments.
Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Exo 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Exo 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.
Exo 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Exo 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.
Exo 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Exo 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
A true Child of God keeps all of God’s commandment including the Sabbath commandment which is Saturday.
