The death of an Oregon mom two days after she was admitted to the hospital with the flu has stunned her loved ones.
Tandy Harmon, 36, of Gresham, went to the hospital last week complaining of sickness, and doctors sent her home with a flu diagnosis and instructions to rest, news station KPTV reported.
Two hours later, the mom’s health started to rapidly deteriorate and she returned to the hospital.
“[Health professionals] immediately put her on a ventilator and from there she just went downhill,” her boyfriend, Brad Fauts, told KPTV. “By that evening, she was on life support.”
Doctors also diagnosed Harmon with MRSA, a blood infection, and pneumonia — which experts say flu patients are more susceptible to because of their weakened immune systems.
By Friday, her organs started shutting down and she died later that day, according to KPTV.
