Worshiping daily, Jesus, faith and Sabbath Worship

3 min

A protestant made the following remark in refuting Sabbath worship.

Q:Keeping the Sabbath alone is not a key to heaven.

Worshiping is done everyday and not only on Saturday. Jesus is the way, the truth and the light. The just shall live by faith and not on Sabbath worship. Hebrews 10:38

A: Whereas worship can be done any day, there is special focus on the Sabbath because it comprises a command from God. And the command is REST.  God knows that we all have to work. Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: So while I could worship God on any of the 6 days, my time will be limited or constrained by work. That is why we have prayer moments like after waking up, before eating, before going to work, at lunch etc.

God had foresight for that, hence He gave us 6 days to work, just as He worked 6 days.

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Yes Jesus is the Light and truth, but can we further define that Light?

Joh_8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus says we should FOLLOW HIM. But how do we follow Jesus? First, is by being baptized as He was. Then living a life as He did.

Luk 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

John 15:10 “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”

So clearly, a Christian who is not following Jesus is walking in darkness. The Sabbath was given in Genesis after creation, and was then brought into the heart of the 10 commandments. It is the only commandment that God says “give me”.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Jesus being part of the work of creation would dare not break a tradition that was started more than 40yrs ago.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Joh 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Joh 10:30 I and my Father are one.

So it makes no sense that Jesus who is one with God, will come to break the very laws that Israelites were punished for breaking.

Exo 16:25 And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

Exo 16:26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

Exo 16:27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

Exo 16:28 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

Exo 16:29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

Moreover, Jesus would not break a tradition that will continue way beyond this world.

Isa 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

Isa 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
